Veteran Los Angeles metallersARMORED SAINThave commenced the songwriting process for the follow-up to 2010’s“La Raza”for a tentative late 2014 release viaMetal Blade Records.
Speaking toMetal Assaultearlier this month,ARMORED SAINTbassistJoey Verastated about the band’s plans for the next CD: “We decided that we didn’t want to wait another ten years to make a new record [laughs], so we’re trying to work this out as a group.John[Bush, vocals] and I started working on some songs in February this year and I got a bunch of stuff that came out really quick and we wrote a few songs in February-March, but then I had to kind of put it on the back burner because I got involved with several mixing projects and then, of course, theFATES WARNING, which took up a lot of my time, learning the material and then obviously recording that. TheFATES WARNINGrecord is finally done and is coming out in the U.S. this fall, butJohnand I resumed writing in early July and we have a good chunk of songs now. We’ve got about five that are done, and another six that are almost finished. So we’ve just got to get back to it and our goal is to try and get this finished before 2018 [laughs]. In a perfect world, it would be great if we could have the album out by fall of 2014. It’s not set in stone yet, but that’s what we’re shooting for right now.”
Fan-filmed video footage ofARMORED SAINT‘s August 16 performance at Paladino’s in Reseda, California at a benefit show for drummerDave Brown(ex-SOUND BARRIER,MASI,TOTAL ECLIPSE), who is battling cancer, can be seen below.
“La Raza”sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 18 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.“La Raza”also entered the German Media Control chart at No. 96 and the Canadian Independent chart at No. 85.
The classic first EP fromARMORED SAINTwas reissued on August 13, 2012 in Europe viaMetal Blade Recordswith bonus tracks and etching on vinyl.
GENERATION KILL, the band featuring EXODUS frontman Rob Dukes, has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The group’s sophomore album is tentatively due in November. The CD was produced by Chris “Zeuss” Harris, who has previously worked with SUICIDE SILENCE, ALL THAT REMAINS, SHADOWS FALL and SOULFLY, among others.
Commented Dukes: “I want to thank everyone at Nuclear Blast for having GENERATION KILL become part of the greatest metal family.
“GENERATION KILL has finished our new album. We used Zeuss to produce this record. He really helped us bring out things in all of us we didn’t know we had.
“We all reached down and made a good record. We fought, we argued, and in the end each of us rose up to the challenge and wrote good fucking songs.”
Added Zeuss: “This album is not an EXODUS clone. This is an album of music where five guys got together an explored our own roots of music, the records we grew up listening to and wrote songs paying homage to what we love.”
Commented Nuclear Blast A&R manager Jaap Wagemaker: “Nuclear Blast is very amazed to announce the signing of New York thrashers GENERATION KILL!
“Already with the release of their debut, ‘Red White And Blood’, we knew that something special was brewing in New York!
“The band, led by frontbeast Rob Dukes from EXODUS, is playing a different kind of thrash metal, not just straight in your face, but also elements from hardcore and alternative are used, not only in the music, but also in the vocals.
“Where Rob is mostly known for his aggressive vocal style for EXODUS, you will be very surprised to hear a different side from him.
“Two months ago, when we had the chance to see the band play live as support of HEATHEN, we were blown away by the sheer power of this outfit live.
“All members have a lot of experience in playing live in several New York outlets in the past and are longtime friends, really know their music and it shows. Now the guys have finished recording their second album and we at Nuclear Blast are very impressed by the new tracks and we are very pleased to welcome GENERATION KILL as new members to the Nuclear family.
“The new record is set for a November release and the band is looking into some touring opportunities as well to promote the album live.
“GENERATION KILL is here to destroy and leave no prisoners behind!”
GENERATION KILL‘s debut album, “Red White And Blood”, was released in September 2011. The CD was recorded at J. Rod Production Studios in New City, New York (where the vocal tracks for EXODUS‘ “Let There Be Blood” and OVERKILL‘s “Ironbound” were previously laid down).
GENERATION KILL is:
Rob Dukes – Vocals
Rob Moschetti – Bass/Backing Vocals
Jason Trenczer – Lead Guitar
Jason Velez – Lead Guitar

In a brand new interview with The Oakland Press, MÖTLEY CRÜE singer Vince Neil was asked about bassist Nikki Sixx‘s recent statement that the final chapter for the band could come as early as 2016, after the film version of MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s biography, “The Dirt: Confessions Of The World’s Most Notorious Rock Band“, gets completed, an accompanying album is released and yet one more tour around the globe.
“It’s definitely for real,” confirmed Neil. “We want to go out on top. We don’t want to be one of those bands that people are like, ‘Oh, they’re playing a … little club now. We still sell out arenas and do stadium shows and stuff like that, and that’s how we want to be remembered.
“It’s just time. Mick‘s [Mars, guitar] health is not that good, and touring is tough on him. I’m sure in five, 10 years’ time we’ll probably do something together again, but it’s not gonna be like a KISS farewell to the farewell to the farewell tour. We’re not gonna be like that.”
Neil also said that he plans to have his next solo album out by the time the CRÜE calls it quits.
“I’m planning to release something maybe before the end of the MÖTLEY run,” he said. “That way it would come out right toward the end of that, and I can just go straight from MÖTLEY and continue touring on that (solo album). That’s the idea now, at least. It’s a ways away, still.”
In a recent interview with XFM, Grohl was forthcoming with all the details, sharing, “Well, I’ll tell you, we have been in our studio writing and in the past few weeks we’ve written an album and we are going to make this album in a way that noone’s ever done before and we’re pretty excited about it.” Although the writing process has wrapped, the disc isn’t expected out until some time in 2014, according to Grohl.
In addition to the new release, Grohl also hinted about 2014 being the year of the Foo, explaining, “It’s a little ways off – it’s not ready to happen right now but I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters without question.”
Grohl also took some time to chat about the 20th anniversary of Nirvana’s legendary final studio release ‘In Utero,’ and the upcoming reissue of the disc. “I recognize myself back then and I remember what it was like to be in the band but it’s hard to believe that that much time has gone by,” Grohl admitted.
“A lot has happened in those 20 years, when I think about ‘In Utero’ and what the world was like, what my life was like back then, it’s strange, you know. It’s kind of a blur to be honest,” Grohl said. “From the time that ‘Nevermind’ came out in September of 1991 to the time that Nirvana was over, it was really just a few years and a lot happened in those few years. I look back at this album and looking at the packaging and the old pictures and listening to songs that I haven’t heard in 20 years, all of these rarities and demos, it’s kind of a trip.”
While waiting for the new Foo Fighters release to drop, Nirvana fans can join Grohl on his trip down memory lane when the 20th anniversary edition of ‘In Utero’ is released on Sept. 24.
