Chicago metal legends TROUBLE returned with their first album since ‘Simple Mind Condition’, released in 2007. The album entitled The Distortion Field features 13 tracks and is available now on FRW Records in North America and in Europe on July 26th, 2013.
With their return album TROUBLE cracked two of Billboard’s Charts this week. The album came in at #125 on the Top Independent Albums Chart, and # 25 on the Top New Artist Albums Chart (Heatseekers) which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Guitarist Rick Wartell could not be happier with the reception of the new album:
“It’s an honor to receive the positive feedback, reviews and recognition. We’re extremely grateful to our fans and everyone who supported us during the making of The Distortion Field.”
Decibel Magazine’s “Deciblog” is streaming the songs “When The Sky Comes Down”, “Sucker” and “Butterflies” HERE.
The Distortion Field makes history in the TROUBLE camp through the band’s acquisition of a new lead vocalist, Kyle Thomas of Exorder and Floodgate fame.
Commenting on new vocalist Thomas, TROUBLE founder and guitarist Rick Wartell says, “Kyle is one of the most impressive singers I’ve ever heard, and by far the most extraodinary singer I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He’s got incredible range, incredible power, and an incredible knowledge of TROUBLE, as he’s been a fan for 20-something years. We’ve known him forever, and he innately understands what TROUBLE is about. He’s like the perfect guy to come in and do this job. It’s awesome.”
Veteran Music Producer Bill Metoyer is once again lending his expertise, having previously worked with the band on ‘The Skull’ and ‘Trouble’, both Metal Blade releases.
The band consists of Kyle Thomas – vocals, Rick Wartell – guitar, Bruce Franklin – guitars, and Mark “Marko” Lira – drums.

DEVILDRIVER will be releasing their sixth studio album Winter Kills August 27th via Napalm Records. A lyric video for the first single “Ruthless” is available for viewing HERE.
The band recorded the album in Florida at Audio Hammer Studios and vocals in Los Angeles, CA at Dez’s home studio with Mark Lewis (Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, All That Remains) handling production duties. DEVILDRIVER has worked with Lewis previously on “Beast” and “The Last Kind Words” and producer Mark Lewis’s prolific leadership of the new school of metal has yet again helped DEVILDRIVER deliver another Epic heavy Metal record. This record melds what the band does best. In your face power as well as the California Groove sound the band pioneered.
DEVILDRIVER has always been a band on a three-pronged mission: Work hard, rock harder, and kick as many asses as possible in the process. The band tours forever and has since its beginnings. Their live performances and circle pits are as legendary as their music.

MONSTER MAGNET are back! The band has confirmed an October 15th North American release date for their new album entitled Last Patrol via Napalm Records. Today MONSTER MAGNET has unveiled the artwork and tracklisting for Last Patrol. Dave Wyndorf and Phil Caivano produced Last Patrol, whileEvil Joe Barresit mixed the album with additional production duties handled by Matt Hyde. The artwork was created by Johun Sumrow with consultation coming from Chris Ryall and designs by Ryan Clark for Invisible Creatures Inc. The album will be available as a Limited Edition CD, standard CD, 2LP and digital format.
In support of Last Patrol, MONSTER MAGNET will be embarking on a full-blown North American Tour! Although the band has toured Europe relentlessly over the past decade, this is MONSTER MAGNET‘s first full North American tour in over 10 years! The band is eager to hit the road in the states for the first time in what seems like forever. Prepare to hear MONSTER MAGNET classics and new cuts from Last Patrol for the first time live! Support will come from Prosthetic Records artist Zodiac. The tour is scheduled to kick off November 14th in Grand Rapids, MI and will run through December 14th in New York, NY.
Frontman and MONSTER MAGNET mastermind Dave Wyndorf checked in with his thoughts about Last Patrol:
“Last Patrol is a return to our roots in terms of vibe and recording style. It’s full-on psychedelic space-rock with a 60’s garage feel, recorded almost exclusively with vintage guitars, amps and effects in our hometown of Red Bank, NJ. The songs are a kind of Space-Noir, tales of cosmic revenge, peaking libidos, alienation and epic strangeness. It’s a weird trip through the back alleys of a dark, retro-future, which not by coincidence very much resembles my own life. (laughs) The lyrics aren’t fantasy really, rather a recounting of my musings on, observations of and general emotional reaction to my life and environment during a 1 week writing period in February of 2013. But I tend to use the vernacular and imagery of science fiction and surrealism to express myself and that’s where these lyrics get trippy. There’s also our cover version of Donovan’s “Three Kingfishers” which I thought fit the mood of the album.”
“Last Patrol was produced by Phil Caivano and myself with an effort to bring a home grown feel to the whole affair. We had been doing smaller projects out of Phil’s “Studio 13″ recording space and I really felt comfortable there so it was the natural choice on where to record the next full-scale Monster Magnet album. Phil and I grew up together and have a shared love of some very particular vintage music and styles. And everybody in the band played their asses off on this one.”
Today the first song from Last Patrol is receiving its exclusive premiere courtesy of The Obelisk. Check out the song entitled “The Duke (Of Supernature)” HERE.

Antarctic rock gods GWAR are set to return to the realms of man and reclaim their vice-like grip on the throat of hard-rock humanity after spending the last year-and-a-half working on their follow-up to 2011’s critically acclaimed Bloody Pit of Horror. The new recording, Battle Maximus is GWAR‘s first full-length studio effort since the loss of their longtime guitar player, Flattus Maximus, and is set to hit the streets on September 17th on Metal Blade Records. Check out the first track, “Madness at the Core of Time” and pre-order Battle Maximus HERE.
“This album is both a tribute to Flattus and a telling of the next chapter in the story of GWAR,” said warty front-thing Oderus Urungus. “The combo of the brand new album and show should satisfy even the most hardcore Flattus devotee with the fact that GWAR‘s slay-skills are as supreme as ever, and the band stands poised to embark on our most earth-shattering world tour yet. We have mourned, we have honored, and now it’s time to fucking DEVASTATE in the name of Flattus and the supreme entity that is GWAR.”
Oderus continued…”This is our first record in our brand-new Slave Pit Studios, which Flattus had a lead role in designing, but without him we had no one left to twiddle the buttons, much less play the blazing metal leads and provide the musical direction that rescued GWAR from the depths of clown-band obscurity. I mean, Balsac is no slouch, but Flattus’ departure left a huge hole in our band. We had no choice. We had to blow the Horn of Hate…”
The Horn of Hate is an ancient Slave Pit contraption that summons all the Scumdogs in the Universe in the unlikely event that one of them is killed in battle, disintegrated, or becomes a Mormon. As the cosmic tones echoed throughout the universe (which unfortunately sounds like a giant duck-fart), the Maximus tribe answered the call by traveling to Earth to wage the mighty “Battle Maximus”, a musical trial-by-combat for the right to follow in the footsteps of Flattus. When the dust had settled, but one Scumdog remained standing…the zit-encrusted and undeniably shred-tastic Pustulus Maximus.
“It is a highlight of my corpse-littered life to join my Scumdog brothers and continue the legendary legacy of the Maximus clan,” said new GWAR-tarist, Pustulus Maximus. “I am not so happy that Oderus vandalized my space-ship, effectively marooning me on Earth, but fuck it…it’s time to ROCK!”
GWAR‘s Battle Maximus features twelve brand new tracks that not only honor their departed ally, but tells the story of GWAR‘s latest struggle against what may be their greatest enemy yet…the insidious “Mr. Perfect”, who has travelled through time itself to steal the power of GWAR–the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the “perfect” human should be. Once again GWAR finds themselves as the only thing standing between the human race and the latest super-powered shithead bent on the destruction of GWAR and the enslavement of their worshippers.
“If anyone is gonna destroy the human race, it’s gonna be us…so get ready for the most epic struggle yet. Battle Maximus is destined to further solidify GWAR‘s place as the masters of Earth and Man, and no time-travelling demonic despot is going to change that, even if we have to kick his ass in every venue from the most puke-smeared club to the most illustrious festival stages worldwide,” said Oderus. “The new show is going to feature Mr. Perfect eating his own ass nightly, as well as GWAR torturing the most annoying figures in the world of entertainment, politics, and religion. Prepare yourselves for the most awesome chapter in GWAR‘s blood-soaked history yet. Hail Flattus!”

With the release date set for September 17th, the Slaves of GWAR are in a period of frantic activity as they prepare not only for the new album/show, but the 4th annual GWAR-B-Q, presented by Ring-Dog Rescue and Slave Pit Inc., and backed up by the fine folks at Brown Distributing. The event is slated to take place Saturday August 17th in Richmond, VA at Hadad’s Lake Water Park. With acts like GWAR, Municipal Waste, Corrosion of Conformity, Pig Destroyer, and the re-union of the legendary X-Cops, this years’ bill is possibly the greatest yet assembled in the blood-spattered history of GWAR’s ever-expanding festival. Additional events include the “B4-B-Q” and the “GWA-fter Party” and you can get all the info and ticketing information at http://www.gwarbq.com. Check out the GWAR-B-Q commercial HERE.
But thats not all, as Oderus travels to Tampa, FLA to host the “Brutal GWAR B Q and Brew” Aug. 3rd @ Crowbar in Tampa FL. Oderus and Cigar City will be unveiling the new GWAR Beer in a huge party which features everything from a GWAR cover band to Oderus throwing up on your girlfriend.
And if that’s not enough, the band has also confirmed numerous festival appearances and even some co-headline tour dates with Hatebreed in support of Battle Maximus. Stay tuned for the imminent announcement of a huge fall headline tour, featuring an absolutely killer line-up of top-notch support acts.

Los Angeles Death Metallers ABSYMAL DAWN, have entered the studio to begin work on the follow up to their 2011 release Leveling the Plane of Existence. Frontman Charles Elliot gave the lowdown on the recording process:
“The time has finally come to exorcise the demons once again. It’s been a while but we’ll be entering the studio very soon to begin recording the follow up to Leveling the Plane of Existence! To be honest, I wasn’t sure we could top that record at first. After a couple tracks into the demoing process though all my doubts were washed clean away. This is definitely a worthy successor if not something even greater, and I’m sure fans will agree. We aren’t always to most optimistic bunch but in this case I think we’ll make an exception.
There’s definitely some faster stuff here, as well as some super groovy and atmospheric material. It’s slightly different but as always with us, ‘the riff’ and song-craft are what we tried to bring to the forefront here. All these songs were meant to pummel audiences in a live setting, and I think we’ve achieved that. We look forward to playing these on tour for you guys whenever the album comes out!
We’ll start recording drums at Trench Studios (Exhumed, Intronaut) this weekend with John Haddad, then head over to Artisan Road Studios with Mike Bear to track everything else, before returning to Trench again to reamp everything. Once that’s all done, we’ll send it off to the good people at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Amon Amarth, Bloodbath, Soilwork, The Forsaken) in Sweden to mix and master. Time to crush!”
Last week, ABYSMAL DAWN unveiled their brand new video for the track In Service of Time. The video can be viewed HERE.
The track is taken from their 2011 album, Leveling the Plane of Existence, and is an awesome slab of technical death metal with the video set against a backdrop of a bleak and oppressed cityscape.
Leveling the Plane of Existence – which was described by Blabbermouth as “an ass-kicking death metal beast.” is out now via Relapse Records, and can be purchased, along with other ABYSMAL DAWN merchandise, from the Relapse Records webstore.

Everyone’s favorite alien overlord and lead-throat thing of GWAR, Oderus Urungus, will take a brief break from his arctic slumber to get “fucked up with the fans” for the debut of the “GWAR-B-Q Beer”. The beer was created from a recipe by Rob Chalmers especially for the upcoming GWAR-B-Q (August 17th in Richmond,VA). But as a special treat for the fans Oderus himself will be travelling (via bat-shaped helicopter, of course…) to Ybor City, Florida to officially debut the brand-new, mind-altering product.
“This is another milestone on the road leading to the GWAR-B-Q, the new GWAR album, and the brand-new GWAR show we will be putting on tour this fall,” said the hardest-partying front-creature in rock. “I am looking forward to meeting with the fans, getting incredibly wasted, and then vomiting all over them. Then we will sell that!”
The event, which is presented by GWAR, Cigar City Brewing, Crowbar Live and DMD will feature free samples of the all new “GWAR B-Q Beer” as well as Brutal Burgers topped with GWAR-B-Q Sauce.
Check out the new GWAR Beer commercial HERE!
“Next product? GWAR meat!” said Oderus.
Admission to the event is five dollars at the door. The first fifty fans wearing GWARgear or attire will be admitted free. In addition to the guzzling and the gorging, the event will also feature live music from GWAR ATTACK, (GWAR cover band), American Fix, Black Tides Roll and Doom Wolf. The event is 18 and up. For more details the event page can be visited HERE.
As Oderus mentioned, this crazed event is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what is being called (by us) the “Slave-Pit Summer”. The main event, of course, is the 4th Annual GWAR-B-Q, presented by Ring-Dog Rescue and Slave Pit Inc., and backed up by the fine folks at Brown’s Distributing. This is slated to take place Saturday August 17th in Richmond, VA at Hadad’s Lake Water Park.
Finally, in other GWAR news, the band is getting ready to spill the beans on many details regarding their eagerly anticipated new record and show, which will be released in early fall. This album is the first to feature new guitarist Pustulus Maximus, who travelled through space and time to lay claim to the crown left behind by departed Scumdog immortal, Flattus Maximus. More details including artwork, tracklisting and the first song from the album will be unveiled in the coming weeks. A huge fall headline tour is in the works as well; so get ready for the return of the most outrageous band in rock and roll history.
