OBITUARY Kickstarter Campaign A Success; New Album Funded In Less Than 24 Hours

Image

Florida death metal behemoths OBITUARY recently confirmed they are going back to the studio to record a brand new album, and they asked for your help, launching a Kicksktarter campaign.

An update states: “I don’t know what else we can say… thank-you! You guys made this happen, and you did it in less than a day! All of the rewards you pledged for are yours, and we can’t wait to see the hats in the crowd as we tour for the new album!

We have been, and will continue to read through all of your comments, suggestions and tweets (@obituarytheband). To be honest, it was pretty damn scary to push the button on this campaign… we had no idea what the feedback would be, we never expected so much so fast, and the support and encouragement you guys have shown blows us away.

We will have another update on Monday morning about the stretch goals. It will include the whole story behind the Morrisound Documentary, and we can tell you right now…any true Obituary fan is gonna be excited to see this thing!”

PAUL DI'ANNO Lands New U.S. Booking Agent, Plans To Embark On North American Tour In January

ImageLess than a week after the announcement of Paul Di’Anno‘s canceled U.S. tour, Nashville-based Mind’s I Entertainment has reached an agreement to represent the former IRON MAIDEN vocalist in the U.S. and Canada. Included are plans for a U.S. and Canadian tour.

“I’m a big fan of Paul‘s and I hated to hear his tour was canceled,” statedMark WarnerMind’s I Entertainment owner. “I hated it so much, I decided to do something about it. Paul is a great musician, a great guy and one of the great metal voices of our time. I won’t let fans be disappointed by poor decisions made by others.”

Initial plans are for Paul Di’Anno‘s tour to kick off in Nashville in late January 2014, covering the U.S., then into Canada by late February. Additionally, Paul will be making a substantial number of personal appearances, interviews and surprise performances with other musicians while on tour.

Di’Anno completed his first North American tour in early 2010, 17 years after he was deported following a prison term for guns and drug offenses.

On August 27, 2011, Di’Anno played his first show since serving time in a U.K. prison after he falsely collected U.K. government benefits by claiming he suffered nerve damage to his back that prevented him from working.

Due to a number of health issues, including a knee problem which will require surgery soon, Di’Anno announced in July 2012 that he would stop touring in 2013.

Michael SaleniusDi’Anno‘s Swedish booking manager and tour manager, told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that 2013 would be “a big, fantastic” last touring year for Paul, with a lot of solo shows, festival appearances andDi’Anno vs. Blaze Bayley concerts. You will also see various guest musicians joining Paul on stage.”

Fan-filmed video footage of Paul Di’Anno‘s July 10 performance at Lilla Torg in Malmö, Sweden can be seen below.

Di’Anno recorded two classic albums with IRON MAIDEN before being fired and replaced by Bruce Dickinson. He went on to front a number of other bands, including KILLERS and BATTLEZONE, and released several solo records.

MOTÖRHEAD's WACKEN OPEN AIR Performance Cut Short Due To LEMMY's Health

ImageMOTÖRHEAD was forced to end its performance at the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany earlier today (Friday, August 2) after only six songs due to frontman Lemmy Kilmister‘s health.

According to people attending the concert, MOTÖRHEAD spent less than half an hour on stage — 45 minutes less than scheduled — including drawn-out pauses between tracks and an unusually early solo spot, presumably to allow Lemmy enough time to gather his strength to perform.

After MOTÖRHEAD left the stage, Wacken Open Air co-founder Thomas Jensen announced to the shocked audience that the concert was over.

Bill Peters, host of the long-running “Metal On Metal” radio show and head of Auburn Records, was in the crowd during MOTÖRHEAD‘s set. He said: “[Lemmy] did not look or sound good at all and could not continue the set.

Phil Campbell did a guitar solo before ‘The Chase Is Better Than The Catch’ while Lemmy left the stage. The solo ended but Lemmy did not return. There was eerie silence on the stage for several minutes. Lemmycame back to play one more song (my favorite MOTÖRHEAD song) but left the stage immediately after it ended. Wacken festival organizerThomas Jensen came onstage and announced to the crowd he did not know what to do or say about a situation like this. It seemed very serious to me. Hopefully I am wrong.”

MOTÖRHEAD played the following songs:

01. I Know How To Die
02. Damage Case
03. Stay Clean
04. Metropolis
05. Over The Top
06. The Chase Is Better Than The Catch

A number of photos of MOTÖRHEAD‘s abbreviated performance atWacken Open Air 2013 can be found at Rocknroll-Reporter.de.

MOTÖRHEAD canceled a handful of shows on its European festival tour last month after Lemmy, suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel). The news of Lemmy‘s latest medical issue followed reports that he was also recently fitted with a defibrillator because of heart problems.

MOTÖRHEAD‘s new album, “Aftershock”, will be released in the fall. The follow-up to 2010’s “The Wörld Is Yours” was recorded at Maple Sound Studios in Santa Ana, California with longtime producer Cameron Webb.

TESSERACT Announces North America Headline Tour and Dates With Katatonia

August 2, 2013 (Los Angeles, CA) – UK Progressive rock band TesseracT will be returning to North America for two tours!  First the band will hit the road with Katatonia, Cult of Luna and Intronaut.  That tour begins September 23rd in Boston, MA and runs through October 7th in San Francisco, CA.

Immediately following their dates with Katatonia, TesseracT has announced a headline tour with support being provided by Scale the Summit and Anciients.  These shows kick off October 9th and Vancouver and are currently set to wrap on October 27th in Greensboro, NC.  More dates may be added in the coming weeks.

The band commented on their return to this side of the pond:

“North America! We’re coming back. And for not 1, but 2 tours back to back. We’ve all been missing Cracker Barrel, and Timmy Ho’s, so it’s with great pleasure that we can announce that we will be touring your fair lands again. Ever since the first tour we did with DTP way back when Ashe was called Dan, you guys have always been so cool to us. A lot has changed since then, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been showing the Europeans for the past year. Firstly we’ll be on tour with Katatonia, Cult of Luna, and Intronaut, as part of the Uncrowned and Vertikal tour. This will be an intense evening of dark powerful prog. It’s so cool to be apart of this bill as all 4 bands create a completely different yet compatible atmosphere. Then we’ll start the Altered State tour, where we’ll have support from Scale The Summit and Anciients. Two bands that stretch progressive music to its limits. All of this is great, but you know the best bit…French Toast. Everyday for 5 weeks. Maple Syrup. Bacon. TubberacT.”

TesseracT‘s latest release Altered State came out earlier this year on Century Media Records.  The entering the Billboard Top 200 Chart at #94 as well as #88 on the Billboard Top Current Albums Chart and #4 on the Hard Music Chart.

A video for the song “Singularity” can be viewed HERE.

Altered State‘ is divided into four movements: Of Matter, Of Mind, Of Reality and Of Energy, Altered State‘ represents the transformations that TESSERACT has gone through over the past few years.  The Law of Conservation of Energy states that: In a closed system energy is conserved, nothing is lost. It merely changes from one state to another.

Altered State was produced, mixed, mastered and engineered by TESSERACT guitarist, Acle Kahney, assisted by bassist, Amos Williams at Acle’s 4D Sounds studio, and marks the first full release with new vocalist, Ashe O’Hara.

PIG DESTROYER Confirm Upcoming Festival Appearances

The undisputed Kings of Grind PIG DESTROYER will be hitting the road this summer for a handful of festivals this including GWAR-B-Q, Hopscotch Fest (with label-mates Inter Arma and ASG), Basillica Soundscape in Hudson, NY and the Housecore Horror Film Fest in Austin, TX.  A complete list of dates can be viewed below.

Frontman JR Hayes commented on their summer festival appearances:

“It’s cool ’cause our next few shows should be very unusual and I’m really excited to see what happens. First up there’s the GWAR-B-Q, where we’ll be laying down some grind in a water park! Alongside my VA brothers GWAR and the Waste. Things can get rowdy down there in Richmond so it should be a lot of fun.

Then, in September, we’ll be at the Hopscotch Fest where I’m pretty sure we’ll be making our NC debut. Only took us 16 years. Oh yeah, and Gorguts will be there to tech-metal your face off. The following Friday we’ll be in Hudson NY in an old glue factory for a show/art exhibit masterminded by legendary cult director Matthew Barney. All bets are off for that one. Anything could happen.

We’ll be capping things off in late October with a performance at the Housecore Horror festival in Austin TX alongside a list of awesome bands as long as your arm and Goblin doing a live soundtrack to Suspiria. Should be an amazing show.”

PIG DESTROYER recently released a never before heard EP entitled Mass &Volume.  This EP is dedicated to the memory of Pat Egan a former Relapse employee and to the loving family he left behind.  The EP is a Doom EP and the artwork was created by Arik Roper.  The EP is available for purchase at http://patlapse.bandcamp.com/album/mass-volume.  This is the only format that this EP is available in and all proceeds of this recording will be donated to the college fund of Pat Egan’s daughter Katie.

GWAR ANNOUNCES GIGANTIC FALL TOUR IN SUPPORT OF NEW ALBUM

Masters of medieval metal, the mighty GWAR, are poised to return to the world of man as today they announced the first leg of their massive “Madness at the Core of Time” world tour, in support of their new album, Battle Maximus, which is out September 17th on Metal Blade Records. The tour, which features a completely brand-new show full of slavering creatures and deserving victims, is set to kick off October 2nd in Columbus, Ohio and runs through November 17th in Washington, DC.  Tickets go on sale this Friday August 2nd.

Said verbose front-thing Oderus Urungus, “Our loyal slaves have been laboring ceaselessly to create the ultimate GWAR show, and for this they have received nothing but abuse and torment. I know our legions of loyal fans will be delighted to experience a whole new cast of ridiculous characters, all of whom shall meet exceedingly messy ends to the soundtrack of slaughter that our new album shall provide. Get ready world…GWAR is coming!”

GWAR shall be joined by deathcore heavyweights and label-mates Whitechapel, Richmond, VA thrashers Iron Reagan (featuring Municipal Waste singer Tony Foresta) and A Band of Orcs (who are actually a band of Orcs). The tour comes after an intense lead-up period, which featured the debut of a GWAR beer and GWAR B-Q sauce, several mini-tours and convention appearances, the second season of Oderus on FEAR.net‘s sitcom HOLLISTON, and finally the fourth annual GWAR-B-Q.  Tickets and more information on the GWAR-B-Q can be found at http://www.gwarbq.com

Overlord Oderus Urungus allowed Whitechapel guitarist Alex Wade to comment on the tour:

“We’re extremely excited to announce that we will be direct supporting the almighty GWAR this fall.  The tour will be hitting some spots we haven’t been in a while and we’re looking forward to having a blast on tour with them so come out and get GWAR‘ed with us!”

Of course Oderus had more to say (when doesn’t he?). “Let me make something perfectly clear. DON’T commit suicide if your city/country/collection of mud-huts isn’t on the list. We can’t play every city in the world in one tour, as much as we would like to. There will be a whole year or more of shows in support of Battle Maximus, so either be patient, or take a fucking road trip!”

Battle Maximus is GWAR‘s 13th studio album, and their first since legendary Scumdog Flattus Maximus returned to the stars to fulfill his cosmic destiny. Check out the first track, “Madness at the Core of Time” and pre-order your copy of Battle Maximus HERE.

GWAR‘s Battle Maximus features twelve brand new tracks that not only honor their departed ally, but tells the story of GWAR‘s latest struggle against what may be their greatest enemy yet…the insidious “Mr. Perfect”, who has travelled through time itself to steal the power of GWAR–the power of immortality, and use this power to mutate the human race into his twisted vision of what the “perfect” human should be. Once again GWAR finds themselves as the only thing standing between the human race and the latest super-powered shithead bent on the destruction of GWAR and the enslavement of their worshippers.

OBITUARY Launches Fundraising Campaign For New Album

ImageLegendary Florida death metallers OBITUARY have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to cover production costs of their new album.

OBITUARY has released eight studio LPs to date, including its most recent CD, “Darkest Day”, which came out in 2009. Since then, OBITUARY has taken the time to fully renovate its studio and set up all of the production equipment the bandmembers need to record on their own.

Says the band: “This is about putting our trust, our music, our career, and our new album in your hands!

“We have made the decision to partner with record labels in the past, and we know that we wouldn’t be where we are without their help…. but at the end of every single day – the fans are death metal — not some label.

“We don’t want to make music for a label, we want to make music for the fans that still come out to shows, that still rock our gear, that still have a‘Slowly We Rot’ CD in your car. You… you are the reason that we are doing this.

“As you’re reading these stupid words right now, we are extending our hand, and we are asking for your support… so that we can make another heavy fucking death metal album for your little angry ears.”

Adds OBITUARY singer John Tardy: “To be able to do an album on our own is something we’ve been thinking about for a long time. It just never has been there, the reach hasn’t been there, our experience hasn’t been there and everybody would always tell you that you just can’t do it on your own, but so many things have changed, and there’s so many things that we’ve learned… that to do our own album would really cap off what’s been a great 25 years so far.”

Comments OBITUARY drummer Donald Tardy: “Building the Kickstartercampaign has been interesting because this is a first for OBITUARY, and I think we’re stepping onto grounds that a lot of bands are watching, and thinking about trying.

“We dug deep into the sheds and trailers to find one-of-a-kind items, and tons of merchandise… then to wrap all this stuff around a new album and just kinda put it all in the hands of our fans is really exciting.”

The Kickstarter goal is set at $10,000 and 100% of that money will be used to pay a production team that will mix, master and produce the newOBITUARY album.

Within three hours of launching the campaign, OBITUARY had raised over 30% of its goal.

OBITUARY is considered to be one of the pioneering bands in the death metal genre, and their 1992 album “The End Complete” holds the title of the one of the best-selling pure death metal albums ever released, with 100,000 copies sold in the U.S., and over 250,000 worldwide.

The band got their start in 1984 under the name EXECUTIONER, they later changed the name to XECUTIONER, and finally to OBITUARY in 1988 after signing with Roadrunner Records.

Reunited EMPEROR To Headline Next Year's WACKEN OPEN AIR Festival

ImageReunited Norwegian black metallers EMPEROR will headline next year’s edition of Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31-August 2, 2014 in Wacken, Germany. The news was announced earlier today at this year’s Wacken Open Air at a press conference which was attended by EMPEROR members Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) andSamoth (real name: Tomas Haugen).

EMPEROR released its swansong, “Prometheus – The Discipline Of Fire And Demise”, in September 2001. It was an epic and progressive metal album that once and for all marked EMPEROR as one of the mostadventurous and gifted black metal bands of all times. In 2005,EMPEROR surprised all with an unannounced appearance at Oslo’s famedInferno festival. Following the performance, the band announced additional concerts that would include a visit to America; marking the second trip to the States in the band’s legendary career. Fans flocked to New York City and Los Angeles to witness the sold-out performances. In 2007, additional shows would see the band return to the U.S. for a repeat performance in New York City, a stop in Chicago, and what would be their final American performance in Los Angeles.

In a May 2012 interview with Gun Shy AssassinIhsahn stated about the possibility of more EMPEROR live performances in the future: “After 2007, that was really a final chapter for all of us. But there’s always some underlying pressure to do something. Usually, I just say plain ‘No.’ I can understand the nostalgia and all that. If I wanted to be as nostalgic as everyone else, it wouldn’t make any sense for me to actually make any new music [with my solo project] .”

He added: “People who are old-time EMPEROR fans still think I’m 17.

“I am in contact with the guys, and we talk almost weekly; they’re good friends. What can I say? Never say never. For the moment, I am so occupied with my own project — that’s my main priority.”

Ihsahn said he left EMPEROR because he wanted different things.

“I ended up doing most of that last EMPEROR record on my own. If we still did EMPEROR, and if it were up to me, what I do now… that’s what we would sound like.”

But there will be no new music from EMPERORIhsahn said.

“Part of the reason why our albums keep on selling is probably because we were always an uncompromising band, and that is a tradition I would like to uphold. If we did a new EMPEROR album, what kind of EMPEROR album would people like? I say listen to the stuff I do, and the stuff thatSamoth does, and you can more or less figure out what a new EMPERORrecord would sound like, and that sounds nothing like old EMPEROR. Trying to duplicate something from the past would just turn everything into a parody.

“Would anyone want a black metal album made just for the sake of making a lot of money?” Ihsahn asked. “I get all of these requests to get back with EMPEROR. In the spirit of black metal, I do whatever the hell I want. That’s the whole point of black metal. If I even consider letting anyone else try to tell me what I should do with my music, that, by definition, would make it non-black metal… as I have learned it.”
